Exercise 1
Lecture

It is the beginning of our classes, and we were immediately brought to attention regarding the requirements for us to complete the module successfully. First and foremost, we were questioned on what Information Design. Sometimes also said as Information Visualisation, it is as self-explanatory as it seems. Raw Data and Information designed so as to we can visualise it.

There are certain directives that can be used as guidelines to design a functional Infographic.

We are to use all the design principles that we have learnt to help the visualisation of the information.

We are also required to participate in the FLIP Classroom Activity, where we should return the learning in a 8 minute presentation. We should present it as a group of 4, in which we will also do all other group activities.

The topic for the week is Manuel Lima's 9 Directives.
You can find my presentations and workings on it here :

Exercise 1 (10%)

For our first exercise, we are to use buttons / legos to quantify raw data and visualise the information derived in a poster. We should use the manifestos that we have learnt and presented in class as a guideline when creating this poster.

Below is my thought process and the process of achieving my final outcome as I unfortunately didn't take any process photos like an idiot.

I separated the buttons according to :

1. 2/4 holes
2. Glossy Matte
3. Size

Reflection
Being the first exercise, I was kind of underwhelmed with the way I did this exercise. I could've been more creative and used different ways to express the data.

Exercise 2

Exercise (Pokemon) (10%)

For our exercise, this week, we ought to use the L.A.T.C.H Principle in presenting the information of Pokemon characters.

Challenge :  The world of Pokemon is vast and wide with the games, and cards, Anime. There was just a lot of information in which I felt like a headless chicken running around with a sense of direction

Thank god for my classmates, I managed to get some form of guideline and of course, Google and Wikia.

I begun by creating a moodboard, just researching for possible directions of design. I didn't want it to seem to cliche as many of my friends were designing based on a mainstream map.

I wanted it to resemble to the deck of Emerald, Ruby, and Sapphire at the same time resembling a Pokemon to the very least. I wanted the element of 'gems' to be included in which you will be able to see below.

Hence, this is how I started :

I started by creating the backgrounds for each location which are: SEA, CAVE, MOUNTAIN, FOREST. Unfortunately, I didn't get to take the screenshots in the moments.

I decided I was going to design them into shapes of gems to emphasise on the Generation being that of Sapphire, Ruby and Emerald.

Then I proceed to place the Pokemon's in their respective locations.  I wanted it to be the location pin.

I was having trouble finding a suitable background and was experimenting around.

I finally decided to go with a blue background, which would compliment with the yellowfins of the shine, as well as the Pokemon Logo.

Below is the final jpg. of the Pokemon Infographic, designed to look like a Pokemon Card.

Reflection
Having not learnt much of the Illustrator software in the previous Semester, this Exercise helped me learn a lot of new ways I could use the software, and certain important tools. It sort of forced me to learn it, what with the time constraint.
