Week 1 (13/04/2020)
Today, we started off our first lesson through Microsoft Teams with Dr Noorhayati and Dr Jinchi. Dr Noorhyati briefed us about this module with MIB and here are some takeaways I jotted down:
We should begin thinking about our specialisation as soon as possible and figure out our field of interest. We ought to find strong secondary data like research papers and not rely too much on informal websites and blog posts especially.
For the proposal, it has to flow beginning from the research topic, to the problem statement, to the research questions and research objectives.
We were also reminded to not dabble too much into the field of psychology and stick to the stream of design.
Week 2 (20/04/2020)
You make a statement after researching the initial idea. Need to have statement from past researchers to support your statement.
Subsequently answerable. The problem doesn’t have to be hung and complex since we have a short time frame.
You should have something you really intend to study.
What you want to know, what’s the common thing, what’s the issue you want to highlih, what makes this particular topic researchable, the question that evolved is something that you can answer. Not too broad, not too narrow.
If you think that for eg. that there is a lack of value in game design. What do you mean by value> what within the game design you want to
You research thinking that you’re a creative industry designer.
When you choose a question it evolves within your specialisation.
Retrieving information that will help you with the proposal later on.
You form research objective from the question you have in mind. Your objective may lead to certain hypothesis. Hypothesis doesn’t mean you have to challenge or a yes/no answer. It’s just an assumption.
It has to be clear to A LAYMAN what you want to achieve. Something you can quantify. You dont have the time to investigate. It is like a navigator.
The factor that you put into account why you make that decision. What exactly you want to describe ?
Dont use the word :investigate as it is quite impossible to investigate a research topic
Relationship between the variables. its not really a. Must but it is excellent to have a hypothesis. You’ll have a very rich discussion.
(EXCEED EXPECTATIONS)—> write the hypothesis
Hypothesis doesn’t have to be correct. Real goal of research is that it could be right or wrong. The process is where you see the value of your research .
Hypothesis never has to be a correct answer.
Variables can be changed.
Example:
“Parties that do not use these principles of logo design would not really have remarkable logos that would go on to be a distinctive brand”
Miss Jinchi :
Emphasis on the details during tutorials. problem statement
Research question and research objective they are all one component.
Research problem all are one.
They expect a good standard of work from everyone, retrieve and read out the notes prepared. Need to show your reading and shit every week. Push to investigate and explore what is your research problem.
